Our sister property in Newcastle, Jesmond Dene House, is a country-house hotel in the city. An Arts & Crafts mansion overlooking a wooded valley, the hotel feels to be in rural peace yet is only a 10-minute from Newcastle city centre. It’s the same ownership but a different style: St Mary’s Inn is a pub-with-rooms, offering robust food (or just a pint) and a lively atmosphere; Jesmond Dene House is about understated luxury, a choice of smart or relaxed dining, and a tip-top yet friendly service.
Don’t get us wrong, it’s not stuffy and formal (plenty of guests kick off their shoes when they sink into the sofas) but the surroundings are rich and historic: inglenook fireplaces, dark wood panelling, and plenty of silks and velvets. There’s a lovely summer terrace, too, and several fine rooms where you can get married.
But, whether you’re at St Mary’s Inn or Jesmond Dene House, our ethos of offering genuine hospitality and a friendly, top-quality service remain the same.HOW TO FIND US ROBIN FREER
