The Bar

THE BAR

We may be big – lots of rooms, lots of little corners – but the bar is still the heart and soul of our Northumberland pub. We’re happy for you to just come in for a drink and a natter – or just a quiet drink and the newspaper. If it’s chilly outside, warm yourself at the fire – we have several snugs and a fire in each – and, if you’re peckish, order a tasty snack. Of course, you can have a full meal, too.

There are dominoes, jigsaw puzzles and daily papers – special events on some nights – and always a smiling face behind the bar. Our regulars have become firm friends. We’re dog-friendly, too.

DRINKS

Four real ales – including our custom-made St Mary’s Ale from Northumberland’s Rigg & Furrow Brewery – are always available. Craft keg beers, ciders, speciality lagers, over 10 wines by-the-glass, premium gins and a range of around 20 whiskies are some of our highlights. Plus we have a good choice of locally made soft drinks.

FOOD

All our meals – from lunch to dinner – are available in the bar as well as in the pub’s other eating areas. If you just fancy a little something to keep you going we have a range of proper, old-fashioned bar snacks such as home-made black pudding Scotch egg and pork quavers.

FOUR-LEGGED FRIENDS

We love dogs. Sometimes it seems there are more drinkers in the bar with four legs than two. There’s plenty of room as we have several snugs. (We just ask you not to let your four-legged friend wander into the dining areas.) Water is provided in all dog friendly rooms.

TEMPORARY CLOSURE - UPDATED 1st July 2020

Dear Friends of St Mary’s Inn,

Despite the Government confirming that pubs, bars, restaurants and hotels will be allowed to open on 4th July, under specific distancing restrictions and other COVID-19 safety measures, the ongoing welfare of our staff and customers are paramount to us.

We have reviewed extensively how we could comply with these regulations and still operate and serve our customers safely, and with the warmth and hospitality our business is based upon. Our conclusions are that St Mary's Inn will remain closed until we are convinced in the future that we can control events safely and in a hospitable trading environment.

We appreciate all the messages of support we have received and we will certainly be back when conditions permit us to serve you all in a safe environment.

Best wishes to all,

St Mary’s Inn.
